Pan problems when importing??

we've noticed several times that when importing stereo files we have a problem where the left channel imports with centre panning whilst the right channel is panned completely right. It seems to be a random occurence as tracks we know have done this won't replicate the problem when we try again. It has just caused hours of problems tracking down an imbalance in a mix, only to find two of the stereo tracks had this odd problem. Is this a known problem? or is there some other explanation? I'm fairly sure its not finger trouble, though!! regards adam

Importing from where? Do you mean importing to new tracks? From omf?

When we first did our first "import session data" from Avid OMF tests we also had this problem. Solved by unchecking the "pan odd tracks left even tracks right" checkbox and deselecting the "import pan automation" data options.

They were via OMF from avid. My colleague cannot remember which buttons were checked or not when doing the import, so we tried them again, in all combinations but could not replicate the problem. We discovered the problem after the project was created and worked on in one PT then transfered to mine for more work, then back again. It opened in mine with the pans incorrect, so i assume the problem was in the original project. We tend to pull split stereo files into a stereo track just to make editing them tidier. I have noticed this same thing happen in the past, but i cannot remember if it occured with OMFs or when importing stereo fx from cd libraries.

It hapens every time I open an OMF and move two mono tracks to a stereo track. After I load up my stereo tracks I always go through and fix the left panning. Just the way it is.

It used to happen with me every time too until I unchecked the pan odd tracks left and even tracks right and unchecked the import pan automation option when importing from an avid. Now everything seems to work fine.
